A little about Perkins engines:

Perkins Engines is a subsidiary of Caterpillar. It is a diesel engines manufacturer for many markets, some of which include Power Generation and Industrial construction. In 1932 Perkins was established in Peterboroug and over the years Perkins has continued to expand in its engine range and produce many different engine specifications.

Before Perkins, the diesel engine was a heavy and slow workhorse, lacking in performance. The world’s first high-speed diesel engine was a Perkins 4 cylinder engine called a Vixen, created in 1932. Sales were very good of this model and others, and by the time of World War II the company made two series of engines. After the war, Perkins engines were made available to the public.
